SILCHAR, JANUARY 28 (MExN): The 3rd Lt. Diloo Dhar Memorial Open International FIDE Rating Chess Tournament, which began on January 24 in Silchar, Cachar, Assam, concluded today, with players from across the nation showcasing their skills.

In the Under 1601 Category, Bovito from Satami Village finished in 3rd place with 6 points, while Veshosa Keyho from Dzülhami Village secured the 21st position in the Unrated Category, scoring 4 points.

In the competitive Open Category, International Master Subhayan Kundu from Kolkata, West Bengal emerged as the champion, scoring a dominant 8 points. He was closely followed by International Master Kulkarni Vikramaditya from Mumbai, Maharashtra, who claimed the second place with 7.5 points. Abhrojyoty Nath, from Silchar, Assam, also scored 7.5 points, securing the third place. A total of 250 players from across the country participated in the tournament.

Representing Nagaland, Bovito, Veshosa Keyho, Keyung Haikam, and Icicang Haikam competed in the event. Mengise Haikam, Senior National Arbiter and Joint Secretary of the Nagaland Chess Association, officiated as one of the arbiters during the tournament.

In a press release, the Nagaland Chess Association expressed its satisfaction over the increasing participation of its players in chess events outside the state, with several winning trophies and prizes. 

The Association is also planning to host a series of Open FIDE-rated Chess Tournaments in Nagaland later this year, with hopes that the exposure will help local players compete at a higher level in upcoming tournaments, the press release added.
