MLA and Advisor H Tovihoto Ayemi addressing the inaugural of Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) located at H Apartment, First Floor, Purana Bazar, near Labour Office, Dimapur on July 3.
Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): Nagaland’s first Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) was inaugurated on July 3 to enhance accessibility of Aadhaar-related services across the state, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) official said.
The facility, located at H Apartment, First Floor, Purana Bazar, near Labour Office, Dimapur, was inaugurated by MLA and Advisor for Tribal Affairs & Election, H Tovihoto Ayemi.
The Aadhaar Seva Kendra is equipped with modern, air-conditioned infrastructure and is designed to be fully inclusive with facilities such as wheelchair accessibility and accessible restrooms. The centre can process up to 250 Aadhaar enrolment and update requests per day.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ngachan Zimik, Deputy Director General, UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati, emphasised the importance of achieving Aadhaar enrolment saturation in Nagaland and highlighted the need for Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBU) for children between the ages of 5 and 17 years.
“Timely biometric updates are essential to avoid suspension of Aadhaar and to ensure uninterrupted access to services that require Aadhaar authentication,” Zimik said.
The Mandatory Biometric Update is required twice during a child’s lifetime, once upon attaining the age of 5 years and again at the age of 15 years. An Aadhaar with updated biometrics enables seamless access to essential services such as school admissions, registration for entrance examinations, scholarships, and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) schemes, wherever applicable.
The MBU is currently free of cost until September 30, 2026, and parents and guardians are encouraged to complete the biometric updates of their children within this period, officials added.
Ayemi, who inaugurated the centre, appealed to the people of Nagaland to visit the newly opened Aadhaar Seva Kendra to avail Aadhaar-related services in a hassle-free manner.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Col Abhishek Koushik, Director, UIDAI Regional Office, Guwahati, along with Khrusa Keyho, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dimapur; Dr Diana Patton, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur; Imliwabang Aier, EAC and Nodal Officer for Aadhaar, Dimapur; social workers Kamal Kumar Jain and Mahesh Kotecha; and GK Rengma, President of Naga Council Dimapur.
Residents can avail services including Aadhaar enrolment, updation of address, name, gender, date of birth, mobile number, email and biometric details (photo, fingerprints and iris), as well as download eAadhaar and print Aadhaar.
The centre operates all seven days of the week, except on public holidays. Residents can book appointments online through UIDAI’s appointment portal (https://bookappointment.uidai.gov.in/) and choose a date and time as per their convenience.
The opening of the new centre is expected to significantly improve access to Aadhaar services for residents of Dimapur and adjoining areas, officials said.
