Nagaland’s first publication on Civil Services Aptitude Test released

Active Learners Academy (ALA), Dimapur has published a book on Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) for civil service aspirants. The book was released on September 13 at the coaching institute located at Naharbari. 

Proprietor of the institute, Apem Hongvah, who also serves as a tutor at the institute, said that the book details a comprehensive list of problem-solving exercises on numerical aptitude, general mental ability, reasoning and computer number system alongwith proper answer keys and solutions. The first such book published in Nagaland, it would serve as a guide for aspirants to prepare for the NPSC exams, and also the NSSB, where testing the problem-solving aptitude of candidates has become a staple, besides other subjects.  

“We don’t guarantee that it will be a surefire formula to clear the competitive exams, but it would serve as an aid to prepare for questions related to CSAT,” he said. 

He noted CSAT as among the chief challenges for Naga civil service aspirants. “Our experience and grassroots research has taught us that CSAT is an Achilles heel for many Naga state civil service aspirants amongst various other subjects. The institute is hopeful that by publishing this, it will help thousands of aspirants in Nagaland to beat their most vulnerable subject.”   

The author (name withheld) of the book, who has successfully cleared the central civil service exams, noted in the ‘Preface’ that numerical aptitude and reasoning ability become a significant element of the syllabus for competitive exams, necessitating enhancement of the range of understanding in the subject area.

While the book aims to provide guidance and also as practice material for exams conducted by the Nagaland Public Service Commission, it has been conceptualized “based on the trending pattern incorporating questions asked in different national exams with difficulty ranging from low to higher levels, and solutions given for each question.” It added, “Whereas there may appear varied views, concepts, ideas regarding the contents, methodologies and techniques used in solving the questions in this book, it is left to the discretion of the readers to adopt the easier, understandable means to solve the questions, since there may he multiple ways of solving problems.”

Meanwhile, commemorating the release of the book, the institute also organised a free class for aspirants on ‘How to strategise for NPSC Prelims 2022.” Hongvah said that the class was open to anyone aspiring to appear the competitive exams. 

It will be followed by another on September 14 in Kohima and will be conducted at Hotel Aura, Raj Bhavan Road. The session will start at 11:00 am.
