Kohima/Dimapur, July 5
Oath of Affirmation for the elected members from Aghunato, Atoizu, Chümoukedima, Chiephobozou, Dimapur, Jalukie, Kohima, Mangkolemba, Medziphema, Mokokchung, Peren, Satakha, Tening, Wokha and Zunheboto were administered to their respective Municipal and Town Councils on Friday.

In Kohima, 19 newly elected councillors (seven female and 12 male) of Kohima Municipal Council took the oath of affirmation in a programme held at Capital Convention Centre (CCC), Kohima.
The oath was administered by the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant who opined that “this is not merely a programme, as the elected councillor are going to give their commitment and shoulder the responsibility for whatever faith the people of Kohima has imposed on them.”

Minister for Women Resource Development & Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, congratulated all the newly elected councillors who have got the mandate of the electorates of their respective wards.
Terming it as a ‘historic’ day, Kruse maintained that it is with much hurdle that the state government has been able pass the Nagaland Municipal Act, and has successfully conducted the ULB Elections in the state after two decades under the able-leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio with 33% reservation for women.

With KMC still in its nascent and transitional stage, she said the elected councillors have great responsibility ahead, and as mandated by the citizens of 19 wards, urged each of them to work in the best interest of the community with ‘integrity and vision.’
As the bridge between the community and the council, the Minister said they are expected to observe and follow basic and general principles with a vision for their wards and for Kohima to be a model municipal council.

Meanwhile, DC Kohima expressed confidence that the elected councillors will take the responsibilities seriously, and all the developments which were not happening will be happening in the coming days across the state of Nagaland. “We will witness phenomenal growth in the urban sector,” he expressed optimistically.
Hukheto Yepthomi elected DMC chairperson
In Dimapur, 23 elected members of the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) took the oath of affirmation at a ceremony held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dimapur.
DC Dimapur, Dr Tinojongshi Chang, who administered the oath to the councillors, highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing that the ULB election in Nagaland was conducted after a 20-year hiatus and included a historic 33% reservation for women for the first time. He expressed optimism that the councillors would work with sincerity for the development of Dimapur.

Following a closed-door meeting, Hukheto Yepthomi was elected as Chairperson and Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung as Vice Chairperson.
Speaking to the media team, newly elected DMC Chairperson Yepthomi assured that the 23 newly elected councillors will work together for the betterment of Dimapur. He emphasized that their initial focus will be on improving the sanitation and drainage systems, which currently hamper road conditions. Yepthomi also assured that they will bring these issues to the attention of the state government and work to the best of their abilities to address them.
Officials including Advisor for Labour, Employment and Skill Development and Excise, Moatoshi Longkumer, BJP President, Benjamin Yepthomi, Senior Vice President NDPP, Charlie Sekhose and party workers attended the ceremony.
Lhousito Khro & Abei Thepa to lead CTC, MTC
For the Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC) and Medziphema Town Council (MTC), the elected members took oath at DC’s Conference Hall, Chümoukedima.

DC, Chümoukedima Abhinav Shivam, who administered the oath of affirmation to the newly elected councillors of CTC and MTC. Later, Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson were elected, where Lhousito Khro (NDPP) from ward -2 was elected as Chairperson and Moala Ao (NDPP) from ward- 7 as Deputy Chairperson from Chümoukedima Town Council, a DIPR report stated.
Under MTC- Abei Thepa (NDPP) from ward -5 was elected as Chairperson, and while Neisaleno Khro (NDPP) from ward -1 was elected as Deputy Chairperson. All the elected members and supporters of both CTC & MTC attended.

In Wokha, the Oath of Affirmation ceremony for the newly 15 elected members of the Wokha Town Council was presided over by Wokha Acting Deputy Commissioner K. Furhesie Nyuwi. Khozamo Lotha (NDPP) was elected as the Chairperson and Nzano P. Kikon (BJP) as Deputy Chairperson.
Mireulung Sephe is PTC chairperson
Newly elected members of Peren, Jalukie and Tening Town Councils took an oath of affirmation at a ceremony held at DC's Conference Hall, Peren.

Deputy Commissioner Peren, Vineet Kumar who administered the oath of affirmation to the elected members in his address congratulated the town councillors and described the occasion as historic as the ULB election was held successfully after a gap of 20 years with 33% reservation for women for the first time.
Further, he encouraged the elected members to work sincerely for the development of their respective Wards in particular and Peren district at large.

During the ceremony, the following members were elected for the post of Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson from their respective Towns whose names will be forwarded to the Government for getting necessary approval.
From Peren Town Council: Mireulung Sephe (NDPP) as Chairperson and Hunganbo (NDPP) as Deputy Chairperson. From Jalukie Town Council: Hadi (NDPP) as Chairperson and Tingba Hegui (NDPP) as Deputy Chairperson. From Tening Town Council: Lungchui (NDPP) as Chairperson and Pauzin Rentta (Independent) as Deputy Chairperson.

Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali administered Oat of Affirmation to the 13 elected Zunheboto Town Council (ZTC) members at a ceremony at DC's conference hall, Zunheboto. The oath was administered for all the elected members of Zunheboto, Atoizu, Satakha and Aghunato to their respective Town Councils, a DIPR report stated.
