Nagas cannot remain in uncertainty: NTC writes to PM

Kohima, April 30 (MExN): The Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the resolution of the Naga peace process and take an ‘altar call’ for inking the agreement within the parameters of the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position.

“It has already been two and a half years ever since the dialogue between the GoI (Government of India) and the NPGs for a solution to the protracted Naga political issue was officially culminated on October 31, 2019,” the NTC pointed out in a representation addressed to the PM on Saturday. It said that the dialogue have been worked out on the basis of the principles of the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015 and the Agreed Position of November 17, 2017, with status papers “which is dear to the Nagas of Nagaland in particular and the Nagas in general, but is yet to see the light of the day.”

Urging the PM to ink the agreement of the much expected solution to the protracted Naga political issue within the parameters of the two documents as “the benchmark dialogue that is inclusive, honourable, and acceptable without any further delay,” the NTC maintained that the “Nagas are impatient now on the non-resolution and the extensive policy of negotiations for a solution to the Naga Political issue. Nagas cannot continue to remain with anxiety and an uncertain future any longer.”

It also said that several representations have been submitted to earlier “with unceasing hopes of bestowing peace in the land of the Nagas at the earliest but to no avail till date.” As a matter of fact the Naga people of Nagaland in particular and Nagas in general wanted “Solution” but not “Election” during 2018 Nagaland General Assembly Election. However, the Government of India assured “Election for Solution” which was once highly expected by the Nagas, and is gradually vanishing, it said.

It also referred to the formation of an opposition-less government under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the resolutions adopted by the Parliamentary Core Committee on July 9, 2021 which stated that: “All Members of the Core Committee and the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue, including the two Members of Parliament, have come together under the same banner in line with the Election manifestos of all Political Parties and commit to the people that the elected members are prepared to pave way as and when an inclusive, honourable and acceptable solution arrived at.”

Stating that these are the ‘fortunes’ that have been blessed to facilitate the much expected solution to the protracted issue, it appealed to the Prime Minister to expedite the resolution of the peace process that is inclusive, honourable, and acceptable, without any further delay.
