‘Nagas must remain united as one’: Minister Aye

Wokha, November 7 (MExN): The Lotha community celebrated its premier festival Tokhu Emong-cum-mini Hornbill celebration at local ground, Wokha from November 2 to 7.

Speaking as the special guest on Tuesday, Minister for Road & Bridges (R&B), G Kaito Aye said, ‘Naga society must understand that we are a self-dependent society and we must not rely on others.’ “Whether the Naga political solution is coming or not, but Nagas will stay and we must remain united as one,” Aye said, according to a press release received here. 

“Nagas are the same people sharing common interest,” he reiterated and made the called to inherit and live together for the younger generation. “Unity through brotherhood can unify Nagas,” he added.  

Aye maintained that the celebration of Tokhü Emong can be marked as ‘farmers day programme,’ where he urged upon the community and the farmers to work diligently and give more time in increasing their skills of production by identifying the location through proper approach. “Poverty can damage and finish every one, if we don’t practice farming and cultivation,” he cautioned and urged the gathering to strengthen farming and to be original organic farmers, the release stated. 

A DIPR report added, speaking on the Naga Foothill Road, the Minister expressed regret that it is still struggling to complete; however, he expressed confidence that the 360 kilometres road from Khelma to Tizit will be completed soon. He assured that the Government will not compromise on this project, the DIPR report added. On the memorandum submitted by the Lotha Hoho on handing over the Wokha-Bokajan Road to the Border Road Organisation (BRO), Aye stated that the Roads & Bridges Department is still waiting the positive response from the Defence Department for clearance. 

Minister Aye was accompanied by Dr Chumben Murry, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland.

Earlier, Er Mhondamo Ovung, Chairman, Lotha Hoho delivered a welcome speech. Other highlights included Tokhuanthem by Nchumbemo Erui & group, significant of Tokhu Emong by Wobamo Tsopoe, Advisor Lotha Hoho, cultural items from Sumi Cultural Troupe, Lotsu Village Cultural Troupe, Shantha Wokha Town Phiro Cultural Club, Folk Song (male), Wokha Town Akuk Cultural Club, Folk Song (female) Senthan Cultural Group Longsa, Folk Song (Solo) by Nyanbeni Ezung Yodelling by Ellis Jungio. 

Later in the evening, the culmination of Tokhü Emong programme was graced by K Furhesie NCS, ADC Wokha and the curtain went down witnessing Lotha Naga musical night.
