‘Nagas’ uniqueness lies in tribal strength’

Overseas Nagas’ Organization Ambassador-at-Large, Rev. Luoliehu Yimsung, while stressing that the uniqueness of the Nagas lies in our tribal strength, however opined that Nagas should allow changes to take place in an effort to keep pace with this rapidly-advancing world.

Speaking as resource person at a one-day unique seminar on leadership for Kohima district held at the Zonal Council Hall here today under the theme ‘Leaders Arise’, Rev. Yimsung suggested that Nagas should capitalize on our tribal uniqueness while also making way for positive changes to take place. 

Answering to queries from participants which include leaders representing apex organizations from the district, Australia-based Yimsung also observed that the church in Nagaland need to be more vocal and outspoken. “The churches in Nagaland are too religious”, he said, underlining that they need to be more involved in the affairs of the society. 

He also gave a number of suggestions for Nagas to capitalize on their tribal allure including constructing buildings with traditional designs. “No one wants to come to Nagaland to see RCC buildings, what they want to see are our tribal uniqueness”, he said opining that even the state Legislative Assembly building and the chief minister’s official residence could have been of tribal design. 

Besides, he also suggested that the leaders initiate having a ‘traffic-free day’ at regular intervals and having funeral parlors and crematoriums. 

During the sessions, he spoke on a number of topics including ‘The key factors in leadership’, The inner circle’, ‘Running with the mighty’, and ‘Choose or lose – attitude for leaders’.

MLA and Advisor, IT & C, Er. Vikho-o Yhoshü chaired the seminar while MLA and Chairman, NKVIB and Chairman, Music Task Force, Dr. Nicky Kire gave the concluding remarks and the vote of thanks. The seminar saw participation of leaders from various apex organizations from the district. The seminar was co-hosted by MLAs – Dr Nicky Kire and Er Vikho-O-Yhoshu.
