FNR endorsed for goodwill mission to Manipur

DIMAPUR, JULY 29 (MExN): The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has been endorsed to work out a good will mission to Manipur following a joint meeting of civil society organizations and church bodies on July 29 in Dimapur.

The meeting was attended by the Eastern Naga Peoples’ Organization, Naga Hoho, Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation, Naga Students Federation, Tenyimi Peoples’ Organization, Global Naga Forum, Fellowship of Naga Baptist Association, comprising of 60 Baptist associations, Nagaland Joint Christian Forum, with a total of 3,786 plus churches.

In a statement following the meeting, the FNR said Nagas must remain clear and free of violence, be it through written words, mythmaking, propagating falsehoods, discriminating against specific people groups, or the causing of physical harm.

It pointed out that the present turmoil in Manipur outlines similar patterns of conflict confronted by ethnic peoples and their neighbors around the globe.

“In the last few months, our region has witnessed the frenzied construction of walls along social, ethnic, and communal lines, which has further resulted in the perpetuation of intolerance and demonization of the other. All this has led to breaking down of the social fabric and fragmentation of goodwill and civility among neighbors,” it observed.

While reflecting on the foreseeable impact of current events in Manipur on our land and society, the FNR urged the Naga people to vigilantly guard against playing any role in erecting walls of our own and to abstain from succumbing to hatred and innuendos of any kind.

Nagas should see to it as a moral responsibility to ensure that these acts are not entertained in the Naga areas, it added.
