
Dimapur, March 3 (MExN): Namri Nchang, MLA elected from Tening Assembly Constituency, has been recommended by the Chief Minister to the Governor for appointment as ‘Speaker pro tem’ for the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. If appointed, Nchang will be the first member to be sworn into the new Assembly and will preside over the election of the Assembly’s new Speaker. After the election of the new Speaker, Nchang will have to vacate his chair in his favour, following which the newly elected Speaker will preside over subsequent sittings of the House.
Though the 11th Legislative Assembly has been dissolved, its Speaker, Kiyanilie Peseyie will continue to be the Speaker till the Speaker pro tem takes over from the “first minute of the first sitting of the first session” of the 12th Legislative Assembly on March 14. This was informed in a press release from the Chief Minister’s secretariat. If appointed, Namri Nchang will get to preside over the new house on March 14 and swear in the other 58 MLAs in the House.
