National De-Worming Day held in Kohima

Kohima, August 10 (MExN): Office of the Chief Medical, Kohima under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM) held National De-Worming Day (NDD) programme at Government High School PWD on August 8. 


Dr. Laso Lazar, Chief Medical Officer, Kohima in a press release stated that during the launching of NDD, Dr. Atoshe Sema, SPO (RCH) said that children suffer from several harmful health issues because of worm infection such as: Anemia, nutritional impairment, loss of appetite, weakness and anxiety, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea and blood in stool. He said that on National De-worming Day, de-worming tablets will be given free-of-cost at schools and anganwadi centres targeting children of 1-19 years of age, as children should be dewormed, even though some children do not fall sick. 


Benefits of de-worming children was also cited by SPO that direct benefits of de-worming controls anemia and improves nutritional uptake whereas indirect benefits of de-worming helps improve immunity, concentration and capacity to learn, improve work potential and livelihood opportunity also help break the transmission cycle resulting in lesser worm infestation in the community. 


Dr Medozhatou Keretsü, MO (RBSK) also added saying the importance of NDD to the students and demonstrated six steps hand washing at the school premises.
