National Legal Services Day at Tseminyu held

Tseminyu, November 10 (MExN): Kohima District Legal Services Authority organised a legal awareness programme cum prize distribution ceremony of essay competition in commemoration of the National Legal Services Day at Tseminyu on November 9.

A press release informed that the programme was chaired by Panel Lawyer Hisinlo Himb where he highlighted the various activities carried out by the Legal Services Authority and added that the main objectives of the programme is to sensitized the legal rights to the marginalised section of the society.  

Welcome address was delivered by Kenyuseng Tep, President Rengma Hoho. In his address, he thanked KDLSA for organising legal awareness programme and expressed some of the issues and problems faced by the people under Tseminyu sub-division.  

Panel Lawyer Apila Sangtam spoke on Village Council Act, 1978. She highlighted the powers, functions and duties of the Village Council Member’s as well as their qualification/disqualification and also dealt with the various provisions of the Act.  

Panel Lawyer Esther Khing spoke on Laws relating to Women & Children. She began with the various constitutional provisions relating to women and children. She also highlighted the various rights and protection of women and children dealt with Domestic Violence Act, Right to Education, Child Labour, Juvenile Justice Care & Protection Act 2015 and various schemes provided for women and children.  

Justin Magh, Advocate spoke on the basic rights with regard to Right to Information Act, 2005, Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and the Fundamental Rights and Duties.  

The programme was followed by prize distribution ceremony of essay competition which was conducted in the month of October by KDLSA on Child Rights in the context of Nagaland which was presented by Vikhweno M. Meratsu, ADC, Tseminyu to the winners. The 1st position was bagged by Avitoli Swu GHS Chunlikha, 2nd position Godfrey Magh GHS Tesophenyu, 3rd position Kesinga Tep GHS Kasha respectively.  

The programme ended with an interactive session where various issues were discussed.
