Kohima, May 19 (MExN): School of Humanities and Education, Nagaland University Kohima Campus Meriema began its two-day national seminar cum workshop in collaboration with All India Forum for Right to Education and Ura Academy, Kohima on May 18.
Professors from various departments and students of Hindi, Literature, Linguistics and Tenyidie attended the seminar, which was held at the Ladies Common Room in the campus and chaired by Dr. Jano S Liegise. Prof. N Das gave a brief introduction of the seminar titled ‘Knowledge systems and languages of Nagas’.
Prof. G. Hargopal (Kishore Bharati), who was the first speaker, stated each Naga language has a living connection within knowledge, according to a press release. “Knowledge is not only information or limited to using information or awareness,” he said. “Protecting Naga language is protecting the Magazine life and existence,” the press release further quoted him. Prof. Anil Sadgopal from All India Forum for Right to Education meanwhile admitted that every time he comes to Nagaland, he sees something new and goes back with new ideas and new inspiration.
He further noted that all forms of knowledge - modern or ancient indigenous and non indigenous, acquisition and non acquisition, reflection, analysis and comprehension - are mother tongue of a child. He encouraged the audience to start using mother tongue to educate people and generate knowledge. Prof. Anil also made the distinction between language and dialects. “What the mind does not know the eyes does not see,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prof. D Kuolie enlightened about Ura Academy, which he informed is a voluntary organisation. He encouraged development of Naga languages.
