LONGLENG, JANUARY 29 (MExN): The Longleng District Administration, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao & Sakhi One Stop centre Longleng celebrated National Girl Child Day from January 21 to 24 under the theme ‘She is our Tomorrow’ at Bautung Government Higher Secondary school compound Longleng.
On January 21, the OSC team along with the District Administration organized plantation drives and planted around 50 tree saplings at different wards of Longleng. ‘Trees for Daughters’ were planted signifying and promoting awareness on the rights and importance of girl child.
On January 22, a slogan competition was organized with 11 ward youth followed by two days Inter Ward Girls Volleyball Competition. The program was chaired by Shandimoinyei, Case Worker, OSC. Theme Song of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was presented by Nyenching Ward Youth. Keynote address was delivered by Trongdiba Tongpi, SDO (Civil) Longleng.
EAC HQ, Longleng, Chingmei spoke on the theme ‘She is our Tomorrow’ and encouraged efforts to enable the girl child to participate in all the activities to gain more knowledge and experiences and to improve and empower themselves. She stated that love, care and respect towards the girl child begins at home. She further spoke on inequalities faced by girls in the country and enlightened the gathering on the rights of a girl child.
The event began with oath taking after which the match was declared by guest of honor Chingmei, EAC HQ, Longleng.
Vote of thanks was proposed by C Henchem Phom, Centre Administrator. The programme ended with a closing prayer. The Inter Ward Girls Volleyball competition was participated by 9 wards under Longleng.
During the volleyball competition, the 1st place was won by Medical Ward; 2nd by Agri Ward; and 3rd by PPC Ward. Alei E Phom of Bahok Ward, Aman T of Leinak Ward and S Metlen of Muli Ward were the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the slogan competition. The best disciplined team was High School & Bahok Ward. Best player was awarded to Nyuang of Medical Ward. The winners were awarded with cash and certificates.
