NBDA promotes technique of Pit Method charcoal production

Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): A three days training on Bamboo Charcoal making was conducted from April 26 to 28 at Kiphire town by the Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency. Nagaland Bamboo Mission, Dimapur Er Lipongse in a press release informed that the training programme was organized in pursuant to the objective of the agency to promote and facilitate bamboo applications for economic benefits of the people, stated a press release received here. The training focused on promotion of Pit Method of charcoal production with the primary objective of introducing and undertaking the charcoal production activity as a community enterprise.  
Pit method charcoal production is a technique for production of charcoal which requires practically no investment excepting the labour cost, requires lest technical knowhow for operation, and the activity can be taken up as an individual household activity with production done close to the site of the raw material. Bamboo charcoal production offers huge economic potentials that can improve the livelihood of the rural poor.
27 (twenty seven) trainees from 14 (fourteen) villages from Kiphire district participated in the training programme.  Hanji Yim, an expert in Pit Method Charcoal production trained at Nagaland Bamboo Resource Centre, Dimapur was the trainer for the training programme.
