In continuation of its Awareness Campaign and Field Registration, the Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (NBOCWWB) was at Chedema village today, an important village in Naga history, which was the hot bed of negotiation where the entire political issue was centred around Chedema once upon a time, according to the NBOCWWB Chairman.

The Awareness Campaign and Field Registration held today at Malo-o Indoor Stadium, Chedema village was particularly organised for Che-ru-di-ki, a coglomeration of four Angami villages including Chedema, Rusoma, Dihoma and Kijumetuoma respectively.

In his address, Dr. Kekhrie Yhome, Chairman, NBOCWWB cited Mokokchung as a shining example, where 95% of the construction workforce is dominated by the local community. These construction workers mostly comprising of the Konyak tribe, he added, are earning more than graduates. In this regard, he also urged the construction workers to make it their profession while further highlighting the need and importance of the construction industry.

He also emphasized the need for construction workers to be treated with respect regardless of where they are from, whether it is workers from Nagaland or from outside the state. Stating that the welfare schemes are for the social security of this section of people, he exuded hope that registration will reach the household of every genuine worker in the construction sector.

Zaremo Kikon, Assistant Labour Commissioner, who chaired the programme also remarked that the schemes will immensely help the people and further stated appreciation for Dr Kekhrie Yhome under whose chairmanship, they have been able to take NBOCWWB forward by reaching out to the most neglected section of the society.
