NCC special integration camp concludes

Dimapur, January 14 (MExN): Maj Gen Atanu K Pattanaik, SM, Chief of Staff 3 Corps presided over the valedictory function of the national level special integration camp of National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Patkai Christian College on January 13.  

An all girls contingent from 1 Nagaland Girls Battalion, Kohima Group gave an impressive guard of honour with General Salute, while the cadets from 16 Directorates consisting of all states and union territories presented patriotic songs, folk songs/ dances depicting their states, stated a press release from Col C Konwer, PRO (Defence).  

The Chief of Staff in his speech praised the cadets for showcasing their talents and putting up high standard cultural programme, it said. He shared his own experience as an NCC cadet, and how the present day NCC activities have progressed manifold. The General Officer also explained to the cadets the opportunities the Armed Forces provide today.  

Urging the youth to work in unity for the betterment and progress of the country, he reiterated that every individual must hone their professional skills and contribute towards welfare of the society. The cadets were asked to continue to work hard with commitment and dedication and refrain from self-centred agenda.  

Further, he advised them to remember their mother tongue, traditions, culture and roots, and yearn for development and progress. Meanwhile, he lamented there are various universities in North East and lakhs of graduates but with no job.  

The Chief of Staff also quoted examples of freedom fighters from North East Region who fought against the British selflessly. “Be the giver, if the achiever is not a giver than he is an exploiter…Make India strong progressive and prosperous by being strong pillars,” he urged.  

He further said NCC cadets should spread the message of ‘Unity and Discipline’ and ‘Unity and Diversity’ throughout the country.  

According to the release, the day’s event was also marked with prize distribution ceremony and closing address by Brig SS Dhankhar, Group Commander, Kohima Group.  

Brig SS Dhankhar thanked one and all for having put up an excellent show. Congratulating every cadet for successfully completing the camp, he said he was highly impressed by the cadets for having displayed exemplary discipline and high standard of skills in all the activities/competitions held during the camp.  

He further emphasized on the importance of the camp and hoped that the cadets will spread the message of unity and discipline to the entire nation when they go back to their respective places. The Group Commander also asked the cadets to work together for steady growth and progress of the country and not to forget the basic teachings of NCC of selflessness and dedication. The NER Region being rich in resources can take India forward, he added.
