
JOTSOMA, JANUARY 22 (MExN): A training camp for NCC cadets of Southern Nagaland is underway at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma since January 20.
231 cadets are undergoing annual camp training under the guidance of 6 Associate NCC Officers and Army personnel of NCC Group HQ, Kohima, informed a press release from the NCC Kohima. Despite the cold weather spell in the Kohima region, the cadets are taking part in all training activities with enthusiasm.
Over the weekend the cadets were taken on a trek to Puliebadze Peak by Forest department staff. They were briefed about the environmental concerns of the area and the concept of ecologically sustainable ways of harnessing Forest produce. The cadets also organised a cleaning drive on the trek route.
Besides trekking, the cadets are being trained by the Army personnel in handling Small Arms.
They are also being taught the rudiments of camp craft. Dr Ruyangulie from the medical department addressed the cadets last Friday. He gave practical advice on health & hygiene, and staying warm during winters.
On January 22, Brigadier PS Sangwan, Group Commander Kohima, interacted with the cadets. A band display and weapons display was also organised for the cadets by 1 Assam Rifles to give them a sense of Regimental life.
Documentaries on military history are also being screened for the cadets to expose them to the contribution of the armed forces in nation building.
The senior cadets from this camp are preparing to take part in the Republic Day Celebrations on January 26. While they are busy with this event, the junior cadets will be appearing for their A Certificate NCC Exam on January 26 and 27. The camp will conclude on the coming Friday after the RD celebrations, as shared by the Camp Commandant.
