DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 11 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) along with Dimapur based civil society organizations and tribal hohos and unions have submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland Governor calling for action in response to the recent Mon killings.

It demanded that the Government of India immediately address the demands put forth by the Konyak Union before the Prime Minister.

The NCD also called for    revocation of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 from all Naga inhabited land immediately so that Nagas can live at peace. “AFSPA law is not only a threat to the people but also a threat to the basic structure of the constitution of India. It is undemocratic and inhuman in as much as it has grossly violated human rights,” the NCD said.

It meanwhile called for early settlement to the protracted Naga political talk; and immediate removal of the tag ‘Friends of the Hill People’ used by the Assam Rifles.

The NCD further urged for induction of “eminent-independent person(s)” in the investigation and the process of investigation be completed within shortest of time.

Further the NCD demanded that the officers and security personnel involved in the shooting and killing be arrested, and further prosecute them as “any other criminals/murderers under the Code of Criminal Procedure, Indian Penal Code, and other penal laws.”

It also condemned the “fictitious and deceiving statement” delivered by the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah in Parliament.
