NCD, DDCF condemn reported abduction of driver in Dimapur

Dimapur, August 1 (MExN): The Naga Council Dimapur has condemned the reported abduction of a truck driver by two unidentified miscreants at Reliance Smart Point, Burma Camp, Dimapur in the wee hours of July 31.

As per a news report, the driver was later released Burma Camp junction but the vehicle key was withheld.  The key was later returned after a ‘third-party negotiation.’

In a statement issued here, the NCD pointed out that all the civil society organisations (CSOs), both Naga and non-Naga, based in Dimapur, including the GBs Federation (GB Dimapur Sadar), had come together on November 30, 2022 under the Council Dimapur and resolved to “maintain Dimapur City/District as a peace zone where all communities can live in harmony, free of anti-social activities.”

In this connection, the NCD appealed to all Dimapur-based CSOs to stand vigilant against such anti-social activities and to render concerted efforts and cooperation to the law and order enforcing agencies of the government to arrest the perpetrators at the earliest and put them behind bars.

The Council further appealed to Naga political leaders to “refrain and contain their cadres from going out of the rules and regulations of the group.”

The NCD also noted that it could be a case of “notorious civilians impersonating as Naga national cadres to kidnap someone for ransom, to collect tax/to demand money from the public.”

“Such notorious civilians/individuals, if found guilty, should be dealt with stringent laws,” stated the NCD in the statement issued by its President Etsungmomo Kikon and Vice President Huloto Aye.

It further maintained that the menace of anti-social activities has been discouraging the interest of young Naga entrepreneurs to a great extent in Nagaland, particularly in Dimapur.

There are local and non-local entrepreneurs who honestly want to invest to open business avenues for our youths, but multiple taxations and abductions of people for ransom from business communities are the factors blocking such initiatives, the NCD highlighted.

As a result, many potential youths have adapted to a life of anti-social elements and drug abuse, which is a well-known fact to our society, it added.

The Dimapur District Citizens’ Forum (DDCF) has also condemned the abduction incident stating that “these kinds of incidences wherein the business houses are intimidated and disturbed by this kind of elements for various reasons best know to them should be condemned by all the right thinking citizens.”

Media Cell, DDCF in a press release stated that when any new businesses are set up, new job opportunities are being created and many unemployed youths get the opportunity to apply and secure a job but if such kind of unwanted elements in our society disturbs a business before it even starts functioning, it is very disheartening and discouraging for the businesses.

“Any misunderstanding may be settled through dialogue directly with the business owner without disturbing the employees, labourers or drivers,” it maintained.

The forum has therefore appealed to all the right thinking citizens to condemn and report any such kind of incidences to the nearest police station. DDCF further appealed to the concerned department to keep a check on such kind of incidences and also book the culprits as per the law without any bias.
