
Dimapur, February 18 (MExN): Election campaigns continue to pick up pace in poll-bound Nagaland with two parties releasing their manifestoes for the upcoming election to the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
On Saturday, the National General Secretary of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Narendra B Verma who is also the spokesperson and in-charge of Northeast released the party’s Nagaland manifesto at Hammock Resort, New Wokha Village.
On the occasion, Verma said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s regime would come to an end soon as inflation and unemployment in the country is at peak with major recession in the market. According to a press release received here, he claimed that states like Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and UP have rejected the BJP government and many more states would do the same.
Among others, he also spoke on the ideology of NCP as a pro-women empowerment and secular political party with 50 percent reservation for women in the Panchayat (local self-government). He also said that the candidates who were allotted tickets from NCP are in the right platform. Acknowledging the work put in by party workers, he further stated that out of the 12 candidates, if at least 50 percent win the seats, ‘NCP in the state of Nagaland has good responsibility.’
He said that NCP is determined to strengthen the government machineries and administration in ensuring good governance and administration in tune with various development visions. He maintained that the policies stated in the manifesto towards the development of Nagaland represent the fabric of Naga socio-political, economic vision.
As per the release, Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, NCP candidate for 38 Wokha Assembly Constituency said that the party has provided 12 tickets to eminent personalities and claimed that the party would get a ‘thumping victory.’ He expressed gratitude to the party Supremo Sharad Pawar, the NCP National President and Verma while assuring that the NCP in the state would shine and progress in the upcoming election.
Manifesto reflects our core values: NDPP
Meanwhile, the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) on Saturday released its manifesto— ‘Nagaland towards a State of Excellence,’ terming it as a “reflection of our core values of democracy, progress, and inclusivity.”
“This manifesto is the result of collection of statistics and intensive research by our party members and leaders who are committed to building a better future for the people of Nagaland…It outlines our vision for the state of Nagaland and presents a clear plan of action to make Nagaland a state of excellence,” stated a press release from the NDPP Media & Communication Committee.
According to the release, the manifesto focuses on a range of issues, including education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and job creation. These issues, it said, are critical to the development of Nagaland and the welfare of its citizens, while expressing hope that the proposed initiatives would transform Nagaland into a modern, prosperous, and inclusive state.
Some of the key proposals include the establishment of world-class educational institutions, the development of a robust healthcare system, the modernization of agriculture and the promotion of entrepreneurship, the construction of high-quality infrastructure, and the creation of new job opportunities, the release stated.
Further, the party invited the citizens of Nagaland to read and engage with the manifesto and provide their feedback and suggestions. “We are confident that our manifesto will resonate with the people of Nagaland and will be a key factor in their decision-making process during the upcoming state elections,” it said while pledging to work tirelessly towards the realisation of their vision.
