Kohima, July 27 (MExN): The Nagaland Contractor’s & Supplier’s Union (NCSU) Head Office Kohima, Nagaland expressed shock over what it termed as the “inhuman decision” of a Naga Political Group (NPG) to penalised one of its bonafide members with “capital punishment.”
The penalty was allegedly imposed on M/s K. Rulhou for “non-payment of taxation.”
“The Union strongly condemns such an inhuman decision from a respected organization, which has declared itself to fight for the cause of the general Naga public,” stated a condemnation note issued by NCSU President Pele Khezhie and General Secretary John Kath.
“Such a dangerous decision of the death penalty within the Naga family is uncalled for and totally unacceptable in a civilized society,” it added.
To this end, the NCSU Head Office Kohima demanded that the concerned NPG immediately withdraw its decision of the “death threat.” It further urged the State Government and its law-enforcing agencies to take immediate action against those involved and deliver peace of mind and safety to its member and his family at the earliest.
Meanwhile, the Union further noted that the contractors and suppliers in Nagaland have been faced with multiple taxations by the Naga groups under the pretext of Naga national workers for the past many decades, and accordingly, the NCSU has been extending cooperation.
However, while the Naga political issue continues to remain unresolved, the inner bitterness and splits within the Naga groups have only increased the burden of taxation not only on the bona fide members of the NCSU but also on the general public, it stated.
To this end, the NCSU reaffirmed the resolution of its General Meeting adopted on May 7, 2024, that NCSU bona fide members should be “exempted from all forms of unabated taxation by any Naga National groups and Ministers/Advisors in the State as well as the collection of political party funds which directly compromise the quality of workmanship.”
