NCW holds consultative meeting with NE community in Chennai

Chennai, February 26 (MExN): National Commission for Women (NCW) member Soso Shaiza in charge of Northeast, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states held a consultative meeting with North East community at Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission Conference Hall on February 23.


The meeting was jointly organised by the North East India Welfare Association Chennai (NEIWAC) and Tamil Nadu State Commission for Women (TNSCW). Soso Shaiza highlighted activities of NCW and its contribution towards nation building. She urged the Northeast people present to be committed in whatever professions or studies they are in and to be respectful to parents who sweat and toil for their children. She assured full cooperation and support to the Northeast community in Chennai regarding safety and empowerment of women.


Dr. Kannagi Packianathan, IAS, Chairperson of TNSCW also spoke on the trend of women related crime in Chennai and highlighting the do’s and don’ts in Chennai. Meanwhile, Wapangtoshi,President of NEIWAC presented the Four Points Draft Proposal to the NCW stating the need of a Northeast helpline, women’s hostel, to open a cell in every district Employment Exchange Office in the Northeast to scrutinize the people and provide job card /License before leaving the northeast region to work in the unorganized sector in order to bring down the exploitation as well as harassment at the work place , and to facilitate women’s institutions in Chennai to admit some under privileged girls/women from the Northeast region for the free education. The meeting was attended by TNSCW members including Chennai city police in charge of women Radhika, IPS and Northeast people from all walks of life, a press from NEIWAC informed.
