The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) of 8th Western Angami A/C undertook Lok Sabha bye-election campaign here at APO Hall on May 22 and appealed the electorates to cast their votes in favour of PDA candidate Tokheho Yepthomi.
MLA Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, Advisor, Rural Developmental Department in his speech said that this bye-election is a fight between the ruling government and opposition party. He said the ball lies in the court of the people whether to remain in opposition and continue to play the role of opposition or to stay with the ruling government and reap the beneficial packages.
Advocating that one has to elect a capable and experienced person to represent the Nagas in the Parliament, he said Tokheho possesses vibrant leadership qualities and called upon the electorates to support him in this bye-election.
Er. Kevisekho Kruse, NDPP ex-candidate of 8th Western Angami AC said that Tokheho is a well experienced politicians with proven credentials as being a principled and visionary Naga leader who bring changes wherever he goes.
He said the ongoing peace talk vis-à-vis the Naga political problem involving the 7 NNPGs reportedly has reached a critical stage now presenting the Nagas with a huge opportunity as well as danger. “At the Centre, we have the strong NDA government under the leadership of Narendra Modi and back home, we have the BJP alliance government in the state of Nagaland and in the immediate neighboring states of Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, which presents an unprecedented opportunity for the central government to work out a solution that is honourable and acceptable to the Nagas,” he said.
He also added that it is not only an opportunity for the Nagas but for the entire people of north eastern region of India for a dispensation of peace to arrive.
Er. Kruse said that the PDA government is committed to bring change in government functioning systems aimed at taking the society and the state to a higher level in all respects. “A stable and efficiently run government will gradually stabilize our economy and the benefits will be reaped by the common people,” he said adding that the PDA leadership is in safe hands. He also challenged the party workers not to be misled by exaggerated, untruthful and irresponsible propagandas.
Prasielie Pienyü, chief agent of PDA candidate exuded confidence that Tokheho will win this bye-election.
Charging NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu who recently told the electorates to vote for “C. Apok Jamir if they stand for Christianity and vote for Tokheho if they want Hinduism,” Pienyü said that such statement amount to violation of model code of conduct. “It is a sign of desperation and frustration,” he said. Kekhrie Yhome, Neivikuolie Khatsii and Vikehielie Victor also addressed the gathering.
