NDPP, BJP and NPF birth concept of Nagaland United Government

Endorses opposition-less united government to facilitate Naga Political Issue to achieve an honorable and acceptable solution

The ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Nagaland State Unit, two Independent legislators, who are part of the government, and the opposition Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Monday signed a joint resolution paving way for an all-party government christened Nagaland United Government.

It may be recalled that the Naga People’s Party (NPF) Legislature Party in its recent meeting, resolved to wholeheartedly support and contribute to the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political Issue and in order to facilitate the peaceful settlement and solution, endorsed the concept of Opposition-less Government with PDA.

A copy of the joint resolution which was made available to media houses on Monday stated that the "Naga Political Issue" is a crucial issue which has been pending since decades, and the parties to the resolution have resolved to stand united for the said purpose, to achieve a peaceful amicable political solution. 

“Thus, in light of the on-going peace talks all the political parties to this resolution have endorsed the concept of United Government so as to facilitate the ‘Naga Political Issue’ to achieve an honorable and acceptable solution. The decision to accept the Opposition-less Government has been taken unanimously by the primary PDA partners namely NDPP and BJP including 2(two) Independent MLA's supporting the PDA Government and the modalities to include the principal opposition party i.e. NPF into the Government,” the resolution stated.

Henceforth, the new nomenclature of the government shall be called Nagaland United Government (NUG), it added. 

For the purpose of actively facilitating the "Naga political Issue" towards achieving inclusive, acceptable and honorable solution as committed in their respective party manifestos; the political parties also made a 5 point resolution to abide by, it said. 

To achieve an inclusive, acceptable and hounourable solution to the Naga political issue, the parties resolved to aim at promoting the Naga Peace Talks with a positive approach in the greater interest of achieving peace and to move forward under a positive environment that is conducive towards finding a political solution at the earliest time possible.

The political parties also decided to appeal to all Naga Political Groups to make serious efforts towards unity and reconciliation and resolved that political parties would ensure unity of its members in the Legislative Assembly towards the issue and make all possible endeavors to achieve the objective.

“The political parties at this crucial juncture of the ‘Naga Political Issue’ shall encourage and impress upon the Government of India and all the negotiating parties to bring about the solution to a logical conclusion at the earliest,” it stated.

The parties also resolved to stand together towards achieving the goal of acceptable settlement.

The joint resolution was signed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton, NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, Nagaland State BJP President Temjen Imna Along, Minister Neiba Kronu, Minister P Paiwang, Minister G Kaito Aye, Minister S Pangnyu Phom, NPF president Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu, Leader of Opposition Party TR Zeliang, MLA Chotisuh Sazo, and MLA Imkong L Imchen.
