Dimapur, May 29 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) unit of 3-Dimapur-III Assembly Constituency has appealed action against one Polling Agent for NPF for damage of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) and alleged assault of officials on polling day for the Lok Sabha Bye-election.
A press release from Wati Walling, President, NDPP 3-Dimapur-III A/c stated that the Polling Agent damaged the EVM in the presence of polling official and also assaulted the same officials at 3 Dimapur-III, polling station no-35 which is against Section 135 of the Representation of the People Act 1951-tampering of EVMS/Ballot papers.
The release further added that the Commissioner of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur came to the spot and witnessed the damaged furniture, injured people and EVM where the same was replaced and an FIR was lodged against him.
Despite the FIR and on spot verification by two highest officers of the District Administration no action has been taken against the Polling Agent, the release further added.
Adding that the lack of action by concerned officers will only encourage such situations in future, the NDPP further urged concerned authority to take right course of action under the law.
