NDPP reacts to NPF statement

Dimapur, July 5 (MExN): The NDPP on July 5 refuted the statements made by the NPF Legislature Party (NPFLP) on matters related to the press statement made by the State Government.

Coming out in defense of the state government’s statement, the NDPP said that it was not about ‘rhetoric or confrontation in any manner’, but a “mature and straightforward statement that was based on facts and accurate data…”

Reacting to NPF's allegation that the State Government has publicly humiliated the Governor, NDPP in its statement termed it “an obvious attempt to mar the cordial relationship between the two.”

The PDA Government holds the Governor and his office in high esteem and sincerely respects his suggestions and contributions in several fronts, it maintained.

Regarding the law and order situation, the NDPP said that the state government had rightly stated that the present situation is much improved in comparison to the earlier decades.

It credited the ‘relative’ peace and harmony to all sections, especially the civil societies and the tribal hohos including the church and NGOs. “We need to continue to make all out efforts to facilitate towards an environment that is conducive for the peace process to reach its logical conclusion,” it added.

Terming the NPFLP’s statement as ‘devoid of any political stand or clarity’, the NDPP said that while civil society organisations, mass-based bodies, student organisations, NGOs and even individuals have come out openly on the Indo-Naga political issue, the NPF has decided to remain silent.

This, NDPP said, “speaks volumes of the state of affairs in the NPF party and political disintegration of a party that claims to be the oldest regional party.”

The NPF has completely failed in reflecting the voice of the people, it alleged.

NDPP further said that it is not surprising to see the roadmap of the NPF and the Congress on the same track, being alliance partners.

Their political stand also seems to be the same as both the parties have opted to remain quiet on Naga political issue, it said.

“We look forward to an era where Nagaland and the Nagas will enhance our role as assets for the country and together build a prosperous and progressive future for all sections,” it said.

With the GoI and the Naga National Political Groups signing the Framework Agreement and the political talks are reported to have concluded on October 31, 2019, the NDPP pointed out that with conclusion of talks, the matter of sustenance for the political groups should have been resolved so that the general public are not faced with the burden.

“As far as governance and decision making is concerned, we should never forget that India is the largest democratic nation in the world and we must all uphold the democratic spirit and principle at all times. We cannot take the State back to the period of the 1960s by trying to bring back Article 371 (A) (1) (b). The Nagaland Legislative Assembly had passed a resolution to this effect in a democratic manner and in the interest of democracy,” NDPP stated.

Rejecting the demand made by the NPF Secretary General for the PDA Government to step down which was stated during a television discussion, the NDPP said that “such political gimmick will not convince the people.”

NDPP reiterated its stand for early, honourable and acceptable political solution and assured the negotiating parties of its full-fledged support and cooperation towards this end.
