Dimapur, April 6 (MExN): 43-year-old Assam born millionaire Sushil Kumar Paharia has “renounced the world” in an effort to become a Jain monk on April 18 in Jaipur. This act of Sushil follows the family tradition. Earlier, his grandfather, grandmother & father had renounced the world to become Jain monks, informed Om Prakash Sethi, working president of Shri Digambar Jain Samaj, Dimapur.
In the press release, Om Prakash stated that Jain monks follow natural ways & remain naked besides following 28 strict norms. “He (Sushil) has been greatly influenced by Muni Shri 108 Prasanna Sagar Maharaj for his renunciation,” he said.
It also mentioned that mass procession by the devotees was carried out around Dimapur town from Shri Digambar Jain Temple, Dimapur on Friday. The procession ended with a speech by the to-be-monk, Sushil followed by his “god-bharai” by hundreds of members of the Jain community at Mahabir Bhawan, it said.
Sharing his life experiences, Sushil informed that he renounced the world after his newly married wife requested him to reunite her with her earlier lover on the first night itself. Since then, he has been a devout Jain involved with many social organizations, religious activities & fasts besides observing complete fasts (one-time water in a day) of consecutive 16 days (6 times), 10 days (10 times) and 8 days (2 times), the press note said.
Born in Tinsukia, his mother’s native place, Sushil studied B.com and is a director of Kanpur based Software & Website Development Firm, Dataman Computer Systems (P) Ltd and partner in other food grain firms “where he earns millions”, besides being a "grand master" of Reiki.
The press note stated that Sushil has already started following the 7th stage (Pratima) of Jainism besides avowing not to have any vegetables grown under the ground or eat food-grains in the night. “He has also been celibate for his life besides avowing not to fall for sapta-vyasan i.e. staying away from alcohol, non-veg food, hunting, prostitutes, other women, stealing & gambling.”
