
Shillong/Itanagar/Imphal August 7 (MExN): The Governor of Manipur and Meghalaya as well as the Chief Ministers of both states along with Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland have condoled the death of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
Swaraj died of cardiac arrest in Delhi on Tuesday night. She was 67.
In a tweet, Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio also expressed his sadness over the demise and described her as the “most prolific politicians of India.”
‘She will be remembered for her human approach to diplomacy & accessibility. My deepest condolences to her family, loved ones & BJP,’ he added.
Meghalaya Governor Tathagata Roy said tha her demise death at the early age of 67 leaves a huge void.
“An outstanding speaker in both Hindi and English, a consummate parliamentarian. But I shall always remember her for her human qualities, always coming to the aid of Indians in trouble abroad," Roy tweeted.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressing shock over the sudden demise said, "She will be missed and remembered by the people of India and leaders from across party lines."
Meanwhile, Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla remembered the former parliamentarian as "a younger sister"
A teary-eyed Heptulla told reporters here that Sushma Swaraj had put in a lot of innovative work during her tenure as the external affairs minister and made an effort to connect with the masses, PTI reported.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh described Swaraj as a "remarkable leader and administrator whose death will leave a void in Indian governance", the Governor remembered the former parliamentarian as "a younger sister".
In Arunachal , Chief Minister Pema Khandu described her as a true "daughter of the soil" and r said, "She was amongst the most charismatic, influential and dedicated leaders ever produced by Indian polity. She ably proved her mettle in all her assignments as a BJP worker and as a Constitution post holder whether in the state or at the Centre."
