NEC released Rs 56 crore for development projects across North East in November

Nagaland received Rs 4.78 crore

KOHIMA, DECEMBER 9 (MExN): The North Eastern Council (NEC), under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), released Rs 56.22 crore in November 2025 for various developmental projects across all eight North Eastern states, including support for cultural festivals, seminars, research initiatives, and other region-specific programmes.

For Nagaland, NEC sanctioned Rs 4.78 crore in November for projects spanning heritage and cultural centres, youth and sports infrastructure, promotion of indigenous traditions, tourism, and local enterprise. The Council’s support covers key sectors including infrastructure, agriculture, tourism, culture and heritage, education, sports, skill development, livelihood promotion, and innovation. NEC emphasised timely project execution and close coordination with state governments.

In addition to state-specific releases, NEC also disbursed Rs 14.89 crore to various central agencies and cultural bodies to support cultural events, livelihood workshops, science and technology initiatives, academic programmes, and regional promotional activities. November events included the Purvottar Hindi Samagam, Lamka Youth Summit, North East Riders’ Meet, climate sustainability workshops, multilingual dictionary development, AI and ML applications, and sectoral conclaves under Viksit Bharat 2047.

Major project interventions during the month included community development initiatives for indigenous groups, establishment of animal feed production and scientific pig breeding units, creation of piggery value chain infrastructure, documentation of traditional medicinal knowledge, expansion of tele-education through smart virtual classrooms, and strengthening of STINER technology and innovation hubs. Sports infrastructure development in Manipur also received support.

NEC projects were implemented through key agencies such as North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NKRCORMS), North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi), CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Education & Research Network (ERNET), North Eastern Handicraft & Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC), Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation (NERAMAC), and various universities in the region.

Completed Projects in Nagaland
The Rain Water Reservoir for Fire Safety and Skill Training Centre project, sanctioned in March 2023 at a cost of Rs 3.81 crore, was completed in November 2025. The project enhances fire-safety infrastructure and disaster-response capabilities, particularly in Dimapur (Assam border) and Khuzama (Manipur border), while developing residential, training, and recreational facilities at the Skill Training Centre in Chiechama. It aims to equip unemployed youth with professional fire-safety skills, creating employment opportunities in government and private sectors.

The Bamboo-Based Craft Concentration Centre, established at Sovima Village, Dimapur at a cost of Rs 4.48 crore, provides a comprehensive facility for bamboo artisans. The centre includes a Craft Eco-Museum, craft design lab, and natural dyeing and weaving facilities, revitalising traditional crafts and promoting skill development, employment, and livelihood enhancement in Nagaland and the broader North East region.
