Need to bridge gap on gender inequalities

ACID observes International Women’s Day

In anticipation of International Women’s Day which is to be observed on March 5, Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) and National Domestic Workers Movement Nagaland Region organized a colorful programme at the Assisi Auditorium, Lake View Colony Dimapur. 

The event featured a host of colorful and diverse cast of dancers and singers with both parents and students pitching in on the performance. 

Dr Reyosalu Vizo who is the District Nodal Officer for District Tobacco Control Cell in Dimapur, emphasized on the need to bridge the gap between gender inequality in areas of education, selective abortion, and legal rights and to do away with child marriage.

Being a mother and women in a patriarchal society, Dr Vizo who was the chief guest for the programme, shared the challenges that women face when it came to fighting for their rights and made the point that only education can they grant them the way towards a better life. She also stressed in the areas of protecting and conserving the environment while mentioning that the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was, “Gender Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.” 

Meanwhile, Susan Lotha, a member of the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), talked about the importance of maintaining good health and hygiene for women in particular. In addition, she pointed out the dangers of believing in fake news that peddled false health remedies on social media. Lastly, she reminded the women congregation to have good money management in their family life especially during unforeseen situations like the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Assisi Centre for Integrated Development is a non-profit organization being primarily focused towards child and youth development, gender education, legal and human rights, finance and many more.
