National Seminar inaugurated at School of Agricultural Sciences, NU, Medziphema Campus

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 2 (MExN): The inaugural program of the National Seminar on “Sustainable Emerging Approach in Agri-business Development,” organized by Department of Agricultural Economics, NU: SAS was held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, School of Agricultural Sciences, NU, Medziphema Campus on November 1 with Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor for Agriculture as special guest. 

In his speech, Yanthan stressed on the need to prioritize use of environment friendly inputs and embrace innovations such as digital agriculture and smart farming. He opined that there should be social inclusivity and empowerment of small holder farmers, especially women and marginalized communities. 

He also asserted that it is essential to foster partnerships and collaborations among various stakeholders in the agri-business ecosystem; as well as synergy between the farmers, researchers, policy makers, financial institutions and market intermediaries to drive sustainable development. 

Yanthan also emphasized that by providing knowledge sharing, providing access to finance and establishing market linkages, an enabling environment for agri-business growth and development can be promoted. 

He called upon the participants of the seminar to come out with strong recommendations for policy making that will benefit the state, and deemed that the theme of the seminar was well chosen and the need of the hour. 

Professor Amod Sharma, organizing secretary of the seminar gave an overview of the 3-day seminar and reported that altogether 170 papers would be presented in both online and offline mode and there would be 8 lead papers. There would also be a poster presentation competition on various topics and stated that participants from various states have also come to present papers. 

Earlier, welcome address was given by Professor Akali Sema, Pro Vice Chancellor, NU: SAS, while invocation prayer was pronounced by Dr R Zuyie. Preeti & friends sang the Saraswati Vandana and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr Sanjoy Das, Associate Professor,  Dept of Agri. Economics, NU: SAS. Dr Waluniba, Assistant Professor was the compere for the program.
