NEISSRIANS observe World Environment Day 2020

Dimapur, June 6 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR), Dimapur, Nagaland observed the World Environment Day under the theme “Time for Nature” on June 5 with the initiatives by Student’s Council for Social.

Master of Social Works (MSW) students along with faculty members marked the day by planting saplings of trees, vegetable, fruits and flowers at their respective places with the aim of giving back to our mother earth, a press release from the institute informed.

COVID-19 Lockdown situation enabled the students’ community plant sapling over wide geographical area across the neighbouring states of Arunachal, Manipur and Nagaland, it said.

Within Nagaland state, MSW students belonging to several indigenous tribes home-staying in several villages across 9 districts involved children and youth in their own villages in planting saplings on this day, it added.

Students’ leaders involved about 100 of students of the institute through social media platforms in connecting among themselves and joining the rest of the world in observing the day, the release said.

Students also took pictures of their plantation activities in their villages and reported on how each of them observed the day.

This initiative was also a part of the pledge taken by the NEISSR to plant 500 saplings on June 5, 2019, it added.

However, some students who returned to remote villages during lockdown could not be contacted due to poor power supplies and/or lack of regular internet connectivity, the NEISSR release informed.

Stressing the importance of internet connectivity during the lockdown and post-Covid situation the Students Council also appealed all the concerned authorities to ensure good internet connectivity throughout the state as part of the Digital India Mission.
