NEOA rechristened as North East Sports Association

DIMAPUR, MARCH 6 (MExN): The North East Olympic Association has been rechristened to ‘North East Sports Association.’  The North East Olympic Games will now be called ‘North East Games.’

The change of nomenclature was taken in view of the advisory from the Indian Olympic Association and based on the directions of the International Olympic Committee to all its affiliates and federations to refrain using the term Olympic and its logo as it is copyrighted and they are a registered trademark protected under the Olympic Charter and to the Intentional Olympic Committee.

This decision was taken during a meeting of the presidents and secretaries of the State Olympic Associations from the eight North East States which met through virtual mode on March 5 to review the preparations for the 3rd North East Games 2024 where 16 sports disciplines are to be held in Nagaland from March 18-23, a press statement issued by the North East Sports Association president, Dr Th Radheshyam Singh and general secretary, John F Karshiing informed.

It also stated that all material, merchandise, brandings, publicity, etc related to the North East Games will henceforth be used with the new nomenclatures, however all that has been produced and manufactured prior to this advisory cannot be changed due to paucity of time and resources.

The March 5 virtual meeting was chaired by Abu Metha, Working President, North East Sports Association & Secretary General, Nagaland Olympic Association, and attended by presidents and secretaries representing Arunachal, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Sikkim. Tripura could not attend.

The members placed on record their appreciation to Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister, and the Government of Nagaland for the unstinted support in the hosting of the 3rd North East Games 2024 in Nagaland.
