NESO on warpath for NEEPCO Chief’s removal

Dimapur, July 8 (MExN): The North East Students Organization (NESO) will be launching its first phase of agitation from Shillong, Meghalaya, to pressurize the Union Ministry of Power to remove Chairman-Managing Director of North East Electrical and Power Corporation (NEEPCO), Subash Chander Sharma. The date on which the first phase agitation would be launched, was not specified. The agitation would be in form of a Dharna and will continue with various phases until the organization’s demand is met, a NESO communiqué from Chairman Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya and General Secretary NSCN Lotha informed.

“The NESO would like to convey that it had submitted two representations to the Union Minister of Power Shri. Sushil Kumar Shinde with regard to the removal of the Chairman-Managing Director, NEEPCO. The last of the representation was submitted on the 22nd of June 2006” the NESO reminded.

In the representation the NESO had raised the issue of submission of forged experience certificates of Bharat Udyog Nigam Limited and CKS Engineering Pvt Ltd., by the Present CMD Subash Chander Sharma to be appointed as the General Manager of the National Hydro Power Corporation. It was also mentioned that the allegation of forgery has been proven and put under charge-sheet by none other than the country’s premier investigation agency, the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI).

The NESO memorandum demanded that the aforementioned corporation official be removed “so as to restore the image and credibility of the NEEPCO” and further initiate measures for appointment of a new efficient CMD at the earliest. The organization warned that it would be compelled to “register its resentment” if the official continues to occupy the topmost office of the NEEPCO any further.
