New book on plant species found in Nagaland

Kohima, August 27 (DIPR): Endeavoring to showcase the vast reserve of bio diverse plant species in Nagaland, members of the Nagaland Bio Resource Mission headed by Mission Director and Team Leader Moatoshi Longkumer, published a book ‘Plant Resources of Nagaland’ containing details of 650 plant species found in Nagaland. 

The book containing 682 pages is a quick reference to each plant with a scientific description and also gives a clear idea about the shape of the plant; its uses and the reader can easily match the textual description with the photographs. The book highlights the beauty and treasures that nature has endowed the state with abundance and aims to provide a clear, concise and correct definitions and descriptions used in the medical terminology. ‘Plants resources of Nagaland’, with a picturesque illustration of plants with real time photographs, offers a complete understanding of the various plant species spread across the state and can be a guide to researchers, students, commercial establishment and concerned organizations. 

The book also covers all the relevant information on the diverse flora and their uses. The book is available at the NBRM office at a subsidized rate of Rs. 1,500/- (hard cover) and Rs. 1,200/- (soft cover). The book is a result of over 3 years hard work and research by the Nagaland Bio Resource Mission (NBRM) a government organization which was established in the year 2007, to achieve the policy objectives for conservation, presentation and documentation of Bio Resource of Nagaland. NBRM endeavors to promote bio-resources as an alternative source of livelihood and employment for the rural poor, women, unemployed, tribal communities etc. It further works to establish cultivators, local entrepreneurs, urban traders, wholesalers, manufacturers, exporters and herbal healers in order to avoid illegal trading of MAP species.
