Dimapur, July 7 (MExN): The Peren District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) conducted a one-day training program on July 5 to familiarize law enforcement officials with the new criminal laws: Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam. The event, held at the Drill Shed, New Reserve Peren, was attended by police and jail officers, including Aonochet, Superintendent of District Jail under Peren District.

The program aimed to enhance the awareness and understanding of these new laws among the district's law enforcement officials. Atu Zumvü, Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Peren, chaired the session, with the welcome address delivered by Manish Bhartiya, Superintendent of Police, Peren.

In the first session, Wonchibeni V Patton, Secretary of the Peren DLSA, emphasized, "The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023 is a critical legislative framework that plays a pivotal role in safeguarding the rights and security of Indian citizens." She presented a detailed PowerPoint slide covering key provisions and practical applications under the BNSS.

Asungbe, Retainer Lawyer for the Peren DLSA, conducted a session focusing on the differences between the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023 (BNS). He provided a detailed comparative analysis of specific sections of the IPC and their counterparts in the BNS.

Discussing the new evidence law, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, Italang Ramlia, Panel Lawyer for the Peren DLSA, stated, "Understanding the BNS is essential for effective law enforcement." He highlighted the need for district law enforcement to be well-equipped to navigate the nuances of the new criminal laws, particularly the provisions on electronic and digital evidence, which directly impact the investigation and prosecution of criminal cases. He also urged participants to understand and adhere to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Audio-Visual Recording of Crime Scenes issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Following the three sessions, an interactive Q&A session was held. R.T. Chang, Additional Superintendent of Police, Peren, extended a vote of thanks to all participants, speakers, and organizers.
