DIMAPUR, JUNE 29 (MExN): Newly constructed building of GMS Naharbari is the best among its category in Dimapur district and one of the best GMS buildings in the state, said DEO Dimapur, Nungshila Shohe on Saturday.
Speaking after inaugurating the school building, Nungshila commended the efforts of the Naharbari community in getting involved with the school and said it was a good sign. She noted that the infrastructure would not have been completed without the help of the community. Such approach shows that the village authorities and its citizens know their responsibilities, she added.
Talking on the RTE Act, the DEO said it was unfortunate that many parents and guardians had taken advantage of the provision in the Act which stated that the students would not be detained. Owing to this, she said, many parents and guardians were laid back in sending the students regularly to schools. “But how do we promote the students if they do not know anything,” the DEO queried and urged the community leaders to make the parents and guardians understand that it was necessary for the students to attend classes regularly.
Speaking in general terms, Nungshila appealed all teachers to re-dedicate themselves to their profession and render selfless service. Regarding government schools producing nil results in NBSE exams, the DEO said it was difficult to understand whether the problem lay with the teachers or students. However, she pressed on the need for teacher to re-dedicate themselves to their profession “after which only we will know what the problem is.”
Nunghila also commented on hundreds of untrained teachers who have been recruited and underscored the importance to be professionally trained so that they could be armed with skills and techniques to teach in classrooms. She was optimistic that the GMS Naharbari would be upgraded to GHS sooner than expected.
In his report, Naharbari Village Council VDB secretary, Purkumzuk said the school building was constructed at a total cost of Rs 31.83 Lakh even as the SSA sanctioned amount was only Rs 16.23 Lakh. He said the citizens of Naharbari contributed additional Rs 15.64 Lakh and completed the construction. Naharbari Village Council chairperson, Tokheli Kikon delivered the welcome address.
