
Peren, May 26 (MExN): The Peren District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) organised a Legal Awareness Program cum inauguration of Legal Services Clinic (LSC) by Member Secretary of Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) Victo Sema at Tening Village Council Hall on May 23.
The member secretary highlighted that at present there are 133 Legal Aid Clinics present across the State, a press release from PDLSA mentioned. Accordingly, the new centre at Tening will be 134th Legal Aid Clinic, the purpose of which was to make Justice accessible to the people of Tening Circle under Peren District and to protect their legal rights.
During the inaugural session Sema elaborated on the importance of setting up LSCs at villages as 70% of Nagaland’s population live in rural areas having very little or no excess to district courts. He further urged and encouraged the villagers for licit use of the LSC and appreciated the Tening Village Council for their contribution in setting up the LSC.
The press statement also mentioned that the Legal Awareness program was chaired by Asungbe (Retainer Lawyer DLSA Peren).
Delivering the key note address Wonchibeni V Patton, Secretary of PDLSA, spoke about the activities taken up by the District Legal Services Authority and how one can avail the free and competent legal services. Kewithingwang Panel Lawyer DLSA highlighted the various laws which safeguard the legal rights and interest of women, emphasizing maintenance law for women. Italang Ramlia spoke on the various provisions under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.
Pelengkeng, Tening Village Council Chairman expressed his gratitude to the District Legal Services Authority and the Member Secretary of NSLSA. The programme was graced by Rev Ramriwang, Pastor Tening Nam Baptist Church with invocation prayer and Namruangwi, Church Secretary Tening Nam Baptist Church pronounced the benediction of the program. This was followed by a discussion, Q&A session wherein the participant’s queries and concerns were highlighted which were responded by the member secretary Victo Sema and Wonchibeni V Patton.
