New parking arrangements in Kohima from Oct 1

Kohima, September 26 (MExN): In supersession to the Regional Transport Authority notification issued on October 9, 2020, the Kohima Deputy Commissioner and RTA Chairperson Gregory Thejawelie has notified the stretch from New NST to Khuochiezhie (Local ground) North Gate via Razhu Point as ‘No Parking Zone’ with effect from October 1. 

“Alternate parking space is provided at the City Centre site (Old MLA Hostel site) and Khuochiezie North Gallery area. General Public is requested to adhere to the following traffic rules as on the notified date,” the DC’s order stated.

As per the order previous traffic permits allocated within the notified No Parking area shall stand nullified and the permitted timing for loading and unloading of goods would be from 8:00 PM (evening) to 6:00 AM (morning).

Informing that street parking would not be permitted from 6:00 AM (Morning) to 8:00 PM (evening), the order also stated that parking would not be allowed in the area outside the DC Office entrance, Commissioner's office entrance and SBI bank entrance, in order to enable smooth flow of traffic.

Designated locations for pick up and dropping points shall be indicated on the road, it added.

Further, the entry towards City Centre parking would be through the MLA junction and the exit towards DC Office Kohima. Additionally, entry and exit to the Khuochiezie North Gallery area would be through the North Gate. The parking sites shall have respective rules and regulations, the order stated.

DC Kohima notifies parking management
Meanwhile, DC Thejawelie also notified that the parking management will be jointly managed by Kohima Smart City Limited and Kohima Village Youth Organisation as per plans and costing presented to RTA dated on October 9, 2020. 

The management authorities have been directed to provide adequate signage at the three sites— City Centre Parking Site, Khuochiezhie Parking site, and Post Office Y junction to Congress Bhavan, and perform their duty with diligence and due respect to general public.

The notification was issued in the larger interest of citizens and as discussed in the special meeting with RTA and other stakeholders held on September 3, it added.
