
Dimapur, January 9 (MExN): In response to the rape attempt incident of January 1, where five youth attempted to sexually assault two minors of Khezhakeno village, the Zuketsa Area Women Society organised a protest rally on January 8 at Zuketsa town.
Womenfolk around 1200 turned up for the rally. Speaking against the incident at the rally, the Zuketsa Area Women Society opined that the shameful acts were perpetrated under the influence of alcohol and “undeniably pointed to the ground reality of the lapses in the enforcement of the standing Prohibition Act in the state”, informed a press note issued by its convenor Neilhou-ü Mekru and secretary Viekupe-ü Kenye.
In regard to the incident it has demanded the concerned law enforcing authority for immediate action. It has demand that the most befitting punishment be awarded to the culprits so as to avert similar of violence against women to occur again in the near future.
It has also demanded immediate security measures to ensure safe and free movement of innocent girls in and around Zuketsa Area and to strictly reinforcement the Prohibition Act in the state by implementing agency/authority.
Further, the women organisation has demanded immediate arrest of all illegal traders of IMLF or alcohol in and around Zuketsa jurisdiction. “We strongly condemned this inhuman act of violence against the minor girls and cautioned that the society will never tolerate any kinds of violence against women,” it stated in the note.
President of Chakhesang Mothers’ Association Kethozülü Rose, president of Khezha Area Mothers’ Association Ngunyi-ü Medo, president of Zuketsa Area Public Organisation Mezelo Lomi and secretary of Zuketsa Area Women Society Viekupe-ü Kenye were the main speakers at the rally.
