Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) ZU (AMN) has reiterated that it does not accept the “new Zeliangrong Baudi” set up by the “illegitimate ZIB” in its Peren Convention on July 30, 2010.
The Union in a press note issued by its Information & Publicity Secretary Joyson Kamei stated that the new Zeliangrong Interim Body (ZIB) was reconstituted in Peren on July 30, 2010 against the wishes of ZU (AMN) and Zeliangrong people.
“…it is unfortunate that certain section of Zeliangrong social activists have been continuously forming a number of “Zeliangrong Baudi” and a number of “ZIB” one after another, which has created confusion and disunity within the Zeliangrong organisation. So far, there are three Zeliangrong Baudi and there ZIB,” the stated.
The Union in the note mentioned that the first “Zeliangrong Baudi” was set up in Nagaland about 10 years ago as a local organisation by Dennis. However, before this formation, there was another local organisation called Zeliangrong Hajam in Dimapur. In 1995, the Zeliangrong Hojam dissolved by merging with Zeliangrong Union (AMN). But, later Zeliangrong Baudi was set up with Dennis as President. Thus the first Zeliangrong Baudi came into being.
The second Zeliangrong Baudi was set up by one K Ningtangpou on November 15, 2007, when he was impeached from President Post of Zeliangrong Union. The third Zeliangrong Baudi was formed in Peren Convention. Meanwhile, the two later Zeliangrong Baudis claim that they are the apex body of Zeliangrong people and they have replaced the ZU (AMN).
“…Sometimes we are confounded whether they are planning to make their “Zeliangrong Baudi” a frontal civil wing of the underground outfit,” the union said.
In regard to formation of the “three ZIBs”, the note stated that the first or the original ZIB was constituted by the Tamenglong Convention of “30-10-2009”. It was the legitimate body of the ZU (AMN) and Zeliangrong people, constituted under the authority and procedure of the constitution. The second ZIB was formed by an unauthorised meeting at Dimapur on February 26, 2010. “This Dimapur meeting had no authority from the constitution of the Union or from the resolutions of the Tamenglong Convention.”
The third ZIB was formed by the Peren Convention of “30-7-2010”. In this convention, the “expired” ZIB of Dimapur was reconstituted. However, the ZU (AMN) and Zeliangrong people did not accept the second ZIB (Dimapur) and the third ZIB (Peren) which were formed without proper authority and legitimacy.
The Union also mentioned that according to the general convention as provided in the constitution of the apex body requires attendance of the delegates from every Zeliangrong village. In the “Zalukie Convention” very few delegates took part in the convention as compared to the Tamenglong Convention. Similarly, in the Peren Convention less than 50 villages’ delegates were present.
“This shows that the Zeliangrong people do not accept them,” the note said.
It also stated that for a convention, at least on delegate is invited from each of the 450 Zeliangrong villages. The acceptability of the Convention may be measured by the number of villages attending the convention.
