Nagaland School Education & SCERT Advisor, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome officially inaugurated the newly upgraded Government High School Bayavü, Kohima on May 7 in the presence of School Education Director Razouseyi Vese and Samagra Shiksha Nagaland State Mission Director, L Jamithung Lotha.
Gracing the occasion, Dr Yhome stressed on the need to regain the past glory of the government schools in Nagaland. “Our results are improving. There is a rush for our schools especially in the higher secondary level,” he said and cited the increase in number of enrolment in Government Higher Secondary Schools in the state.
With the new Education Policy in place, he said “We are realigning our policy and framework with the best practice in the global scenario.”
Meanwhile, Dr Yhome called for collective teamwork to ensure productive performance of the government schools and also told the public to take care of the school.
Thanking Dr Yhome and all the concerned people towards the upgradation of the school, GHS Bayavü Assistant Headmaster Vedusa said, “We recommit ourselves to our mission of providing the holistic education that empowers our students to reach their full potential.” We envision a future where our students become responsible citizens and make a positive impact to the society, he added.
Khinyi Woch, chairman, Bayavü Panchayat Area on behalf of Bayavü Area Panchayat, Bayavü School Management and Development Committee made a plea to Dr Yhome to take initiation with the school education department for shifting of the school by way of exchanging the existing GHS Bayavü site and school infrastructure with NEFA Type Staff Quarter near Nagaland Bharat Scouts & Guides office.
Woch said that the present site of the school has no more space for further development of the school nor road connectivity’s to the school except trespassing through Census office gate and fencing.
Presenting the report of school upgradation, Kikruneinuo Liezietsu informed that the school was established on November 2, 1965 in a private residential building belonging to Lhoupfhe Angami at Kezieke Colony, Kohima Town. The school was initially called as the Kezieke Government Lower primary school and received its first building from the Government in 1972.
A natural disaster of landslide swept away the school where it was relocated to present Lotha Community building Kezieke and then to ABCC quarter above Tanquist road. After 15 years span, the school was relocated to the present site. With the rise in need of further education, the school was upgraded to Middle School in 2010.
For upgradation of the school to that of High School, the School Management Committee (SMC) proposed the matter to the school education department on November 28, 2022.
“Through the department concerns, we received an AHM in due time, one Graduate teacher in Maths, two general Graduate Teachers in the rationalization. However, we would also like to bring to the notice of the officers here that to fully function as a full-fledged High school, we are in need of One Science teacher and Multi Tasking Staff so as to function properly,” said Liezietsu.
“With a total strength of 26 teachers with one AHM, the GHS Bayavü further proposed and requested “that the future rationalization will not affect us during this crucial time of our new beginning,” she added.
Earlier, Vizosilie Tsürho, Asst Pastor CRC Bethesda and Neichalie Chadi, pastor, Central Baptist Church prayed for the programme.
