Maligaon, February 26 (MExN): The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, conducted an extensive Annual Safety Inspection of the Tinsukia (TSK) Division on February 25, covering the 152-km Mariani–Simaluguri–New Tinsukia section.
The inspection was undertaken as part of NFR’s ongoing efforts to strengthen operational safety, infrastructure reliability and passenger amenities across its network.
The General Manager commenced the inspection from Mariani, where he examined the Crew Lobby and Running Room, reviewing crew booking procedures, resting facilities and adherence to safety protocols. He also assessed works under the Automatic Block Signalling System (ABSS) and inspected the newly installed Large Format Display system for real-time monitoring and operational control. A newly installed Solar Power Plant at the station was inaugurated, reinforcing NFR’s commitment to sustainable energy initiatives.
At Nakachari, Shrivastava inspected the signalling system, including the Relay Room, and reviewed the functioning of the Electronic Intrusion Detection System and other safety mechanisms. He also inspected Level Crossing Gate No. 102 (Engineering), a non-interlocked gate, and emphasised strict compliance with safety norms at level crossings.
During his halt at Simaluguri, the General Manager conducted a speed trial on the Mariani–Simaluguri section in connection with the proposed enhancement of sectional speed from 100 kmph to 110 kmph to improve line capacity and reduce transit time. He inspected Level Crossing Gate No. ST-115 (Traffic), Point Nos. 31 and 31A at the Mariani end, the Power House, ABSS works and the Railway Health Unit.
Shrivastava also reviewed the condition of the Railway Colony and interacted with staff on civic amenities. On the occasion, he inaugurated a newly developed Railway Playground and newly constructed staff quarters to boost employee welfare and community infrastructure.
Further inspections included Minor Bridge No. 524 and an interaction with the track maintainer of Gang No. 18-DR to assess field-level safety practices and maintenance standards. At Naharkatiya (NHK), he inspected the Traction Sub-Station (TSS) to review traction power reliability. Important Bridge No. 561 and a Switch Expansion Joint were also examined to ensure structural integrity and track safety.
