Displaced Yimchungers organize anniversary prayer Kiphire, February 7 (MExN): To observe the one year anniversary of their displacement, Yimchunger people displaced from Kiphire along with NGOs and public leaders held a prayer programme (instead of silent procession) on February 7. A press release from S Lunso Yimchunger, Executive Chairman, Kiphire Displaced Yimchungru Union (KDYU) reminded that all Yimchunger denizens were “vacated” from Kiphire Town on February 7, 2016. During the prayer programme, Shelimthong, Executive Chairman, YTC informed the displaced Yimchungers that a silent procession could not be held due to the partial bandh across Nagaland – showing respect and solidarity to bereaved families and acknowledging the bandh. He also conveyed to them that the households of Pungro Town have volunteered to donate one pillar and more for the construction of their (displaced Yimchungers) houses. Earlier, the programme was chaired by C Neoji, former President, YTUK and invocation prayer was said by Yimto, Pastor, PTBC. Kohima District Pensioners’ Association informs members Kohima, February 7 (MExN): The Kohima District Pensioners’ Association has informed all its members that the association’s office building along with all the records of the office was burnt to ashes on February 2. Therefore, all the pensioners have been requested to wait for sometime till a suitable building is found for immediate functioning. A press release from the association’s president, N. Mechieo and general secretary, L. Punyü said that further notice will be made available. Suspected opium seized; 1 arrested Kohima, February 7 (MExN): Personnel of 164 INF Bn. (H&H) Naga Regiment, C/O 99 APO while conducting MVCP at NH-2 near Phesama Police Check Gate recovered suspected opium weighing 2 kg in crude form and 3.50 grams in powder form from the possession of one person identified as Janghaolen (19) of Churachandpur, Manipur on February 6 around 3:00 pm, according to a release from SDPO (South) & PRO, Kohima. The accused was travelling with the suspected opium in a passenger vehicle bound for Dimapur from Imphal. The seized item along with the accused was later handed over to South Police Station, Kohima, the release said. A regular case has been registered against the arrested person for conducting further investigation.
