KSU check sale of tobacco, expired goods   Tseminyu, June 18 (MExN): In affirmation of its stand on total ban of tobacco and against malpractice of selling expired food products, Kandi Students' Union (KSU) conducted a surprise checking on June 9 in all the shops under Kandi jurisdiction. The union seized banned items like ‘Talab’, ‘Gutkhas’, ‘Raja’, ‘Rajnigandha’ and other tobacco products and a huge pile of expired goods from the shops, informed a press release from the union. The defaulters in possession of tobacco and expired goods were penalized a sum of Rs.1000 and Rs. 500 respectively, it added. The release further said that the seized items worth thousands of rupees were destroyed at different points in the presence of the KSU executives and the public. The union has warned of stern action in case of second offence and cautioned all shopkeepers to refrain from such “malpractices/evils” which may have negative implications particularly on the student community and the public in general.     Awareness camp on HIV & AIDS   Jalukie, June 18 (MExN): 36 Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters IGAR (N) organised an awareness camp on HIV & AIDS in collaboration with Peren district medical authorities and Innovative Society - an NGO - on June 17 in Jalukie, Peren district. The aim of the event, a press release from Assam Rifles said, was to spread awareness about HIV & AIDS amongst youth and locals of Jalukie and neighbouring villages. The lecture highlighted the causes of spread, preventive measure and stigma attached to HIV & AIDS. It was followed by medical screening of volunteers and distribution of leaflets on precautions & cures. The camp was attended by 87 youth and locals from Jalukie and neighbouring villages.     36 AR offers coaching to children   Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): 36 Assam Rifles offered 15 days of coaching to children from Peren district for the 100 vacancies that the North Eastern Council (NEC) had released for free education, boarding, mess and clothing for BPL children, especially those living in the border areas. Among the children assisted by the 36 Assam Rifles, 22 were selected in the entrance exam conducted by the NEC, informed a press release from Assam Rifles. On June 9, all the children got admission in Assam Rifles Public School, Dimapur district.     AR donate street light   Mon, June 18 (MExN): 35 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (N) provided eight solar street lights to village council of Wakching in the presence of eminent personalities of the village, informed a press release from AR. It expressed that the installation of solar streets lights will brighten the pitch dark areas of the remotely located village and provide relief to some extent as Wakching is devoid of regular electric supply.     Disaster training for uniform personnel held   Kohima, June 18 (DIPR): The National Disaster Response Force, B.N Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh in collaboration with Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority, Home Department and District Disaster Management Authority, Phek organized a one day training programme in Phek on June 13. The training was given to Nagaland Armed Police and State Disaster Response Force personnel. SDPO, Phek, Vehele Tuleng delivered the keynote address, while District Project Association, NSDMA, Phek, Vezo Lohe appraised on tool handling during disasters.     Farmers training on horti crops conclude   Phek, June 18 (MExN): Five-day farmers’ training on horticulture crops for Phek district, which was launched at Chetheba village on May 30, completed successfully, according to a press release. It was organized by Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema in collaboration with the District Horticulture Office, Phek. The programme was launched by chief guest, Dr. Menguzenuo Chielie, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon, Chozuba. Shisarenla Aier, Assistant Horticulture Specialist, CIH and Senti Longchar (DK), Horticulture Officer, Phek were the resource persons. CIH and DHO Office Phek also conducted a special training on Floriculture in collaboration with Pfutsero Government College. The programme concluded with giving away of certificates to 250 participants from various villages and institutions.     NCDNT meeting held   Kohima, June 18 (DIPR): National Commission for De-notified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic (NCDNT) led by the Chairman Bhiku Ramji Idate along with members of the Commission held a meeting on June 13 at Hotel Japfü, Kohima. The meeting chaired by Secretary, Home, C. Kikon was attended by officials from Home and Social Welfare Departments. During the course of discussion, the Commission was informed that Nagaland was predominantly a tribal state and in view of this fact the state of Nagaland cannot come under the purview of the criteria, ‘Nomadic or Semi Nomadic.’     PHC Pangsha observes IDCF   Dimapur, June 18 (MExN): The Primary Health Centre Pangsha observed the IDCF (Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight) on June 14 at Straightway Mission School ITC DAN in the Indo-Myanmar boundary. A press note from Chief Medical Officer Tuensang Dr. T Pangjung Sangtam informed that during the event, ORS & Zinc were given to the children after health check up. A hand washing technique & health talk was given by Thangmong GNM. The Staff of PHC Pangsha & Schools were present during the programme.
