Administrative HQs upgraded
Kohima, December 1 (MExN): The Cabinet has approved up-gradation of several administrative headquarters in Nagaland, while the proposal for creation of a separate district of Noklak has been deferred. According to a circular signed by Cabinet Secretary Pankaj Kumar and Chief Minister TR Zeliang, three SDO (Civil) headquarters have been approved to be upgraded to ADC HQ – SDO (Civil), Jalukie to ADC, Jalukie under Peren district; SDO (Civil), Akuluto to that of ADC, Akuluto under Zunheboto district; SDO (Civil), Sanis to that of ADC, Sanis under Wokha district. Meanwhile, EAC, Athibung will be upgraded to SDO (Civil), Athibung under Peren district. The EAC Circle, Kebai Khelma Circle will be under Athibung Circle, it added.
Modi greets Nagaland on Statehood Day
New Delhi, December 1 (IANS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday greeted the people of Nagaland on their Statehood Day and wished that the state would scale to new heights of development. "On the occasion of their Statehood Day, I convey my greetings to the people of Nagaland. This state is blessed with immense natural beauty and industrious citizens. I pray that the state scales new heights of development in the times to come," Modi tweeted.
Consultative meeting on Naga political issue ‘postponed indefinitely’
Kohima, December 1 (MExN): The Nagaland Legislators' Forum consultative meeting with the ex-parliamentarians, civil societies, and tribal hohos on Naga political issue scheduled for December 4 at RCEMPA, Jotsoma has been “postponed indefinitely.” This was informed in a press release issued by NLA Commissioner & Secretary N. Benjamin Newmai. It expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.
International day of persons with disabilities
Kohima, December 1 (MExN): The state’s department of social welfare in association with Nagaland Parents Association for the Disabled (NAPAD) will observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) under the theme ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient society for all’ on December 3 at 1:00 pm at Highland Park, Kohima. Parliamentary Secretary for social welfare Merentoshi R. Jamir will be the chief guest. For transportation, pick up time starts at 11:30 am at PHQ Junction, T.C.P Gate, Keziekie Bus Stand and High School Junction.
NCD condemns assault
Dimapur, December 1 (MExN): Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has condemned the “unacceptable behavior meted out” to Dr. Angukato, who was allegedly tied and beaten up by a group of non-Nagas at Padumpukhiri here on November 30 night. NCD in a statement from its general secretary, Thsapongkyu Sangtam expressed concern over the incident and called it “gruesome and shocking”. It further expressed alarm over Dimapur becoming a “prime city for criminal minded from outside the state” and underscored “the complete lack of safety even in our homes and on the streets.” The NCD asked the law enforcing bodies to leave no stone unturned in arresting the remaining accused at the earliest and award befitting punishment to all of them.
NSCN (R) informs about PS to President
Dimapur, December 1 (MExN): The NSCN (Reformation) has informed of the appointment of Personal Secretary to the NSCN (R) President. N Mansham Naga was appointed the Personal Secretary to the President on December 21, 2016, said a press release from MIP, NSCN (R). Mansham completed his B.A from Japfü Christian College Kohima and obtained his Master Degree (Sociology) from Mahatma Gandhi University, Shillong, Meghalaya in 2014, it was informed. He served in various students and youth organizations before joining the group. “His joining in the national service has set an instance for the people of Konyak in particular and Naga youths in general,” the release stated, adding “his contribution in the government will be of benefit.”
