
One dead, 3 civilians injured in J&K clash Srinagar, May 2 (IANS): A civilian died while three others were injured on Wednesday in clashes with the security forces near a gunfight site in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian district, police said. Police said security forces laid cordon around Turkawangam village in Shopian following information about the presence of a group of militants there, but came under fire from the hiding militants, sparking a gunfight. "At this, youth resorted to heavy stone pelting on the security forces to break the cordon. Tear smoke shells and pellets were used to quell the protests," a police officer said. Of the four injured civilians brought, one was already dead, said the Medical Superintendent at Shopian District Hospital, adding the dead youth was immediately taken back by the people who had brought him, saying he belonged to Pinjura village. Inayat, another youth who was critically injured has been shifted to a hospital in Srinagar. 6 run over by bus in UP Lucknow, May 2 (IANS): Six persons, including two teenagers, were run over by a speeding bus while crossing a road in Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police said. Four were killed on the spot, while two succumbed to their injuries later. Two others are said to be critical. The accident took place on the Lucknow-Faizabad highway. The traffic was held up for over an hour after the incident. Circle Officer (Sadar) Rajesh Yadav said prima facie it appeared to be a case of drunken driving. "We are still trying to establish this. Most passengers in the bus had reported it." Ex-Bihar Speaker quits JD-U over 'anti-Dalit' policies Patna, May 2 (IANS): Senior ruling JD-U leader Uday Narain Choudhary, a former Speaker of the Bihar Assembly, on Wednesday said he was quitting the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U) to denounce the state government's anti-Dalit policies. "I have resigned from the JD-U over the party leadership's silence on increasing crime and atrocities against Dalits in Bihar and across the country. The government led by the party is also pursuing anti-Dalit policies," the Dalit leader told the media. Choudhary has expressed his displeasure with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the JD-U President, since he teamed up with the Bharatiya Janata Party. Choudhary, once considered close to Nitish Kumar, said: "I was neglected, ignored and sidelined in the party and no attention was paid when I raised issues related to Dalits." In recent times, Choudhary has joined hands with the RJD and former BJP leader Yaswant Sinha. Man held for molesting Russian woman New Delhi, May 2 (IANS): A man was arrested here on Wednesday on charges of molesting a Russian woman on board an Aeroflot plane, police said. Businessman Ram Kishan, who deals in clothes in Russia, was arrested after security personnel at the Indira Gandhi International Airport handed him over to Delhi Police. "The woman complained that he touched her inappropriately during the flight to Delhi. When she protested and resisted his actions, he abused her and made indecent gestures," Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjay Bhatia said. "The woman approached the airport security following which Ram Kishan was arrested. A case outraging the modesty of a woman has been registered," Bhatia added.
