The Political Science Association (PSA) of Fazl Ali College (FAC) Mokokchung recently organised a Tarun Sabha at the college auditorium. The event marked the first youth parliament under the aegis of the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, Government of India, and was also organised by Political Science Association FAC. In his welcome speech, Dr E Benrithung Patton, HOD, Political Science stated the aim of the first youth parliament, which is to promote civic engagement and empower youths by providing them with the tools and knowledge necessary for a deep understanding of parliamentary affairs. Tsukjemwati, General Secretary, BJP Mokokchung unit, delivered a speech emphasizing the importance of both theoretical and practical experience in parliamentary affairs. The event witnessed the participation of 50 political science honours students, who played the roles of ruling MPs, MPs from the opposition, foreign delegations, and marshals. Additionally, students and faculty from JMC, JMS, MHSS, and Shisajen Riju were also present at the event.

Kohima College hosted a one-day Faculty Development Program (FDP) on ‘Mentoring and Counselling’ organised by the Mentoring and Counselling Cell. The programme was held at the college's conference hall with the resource person, Kezhazolie Cornelius Mere, a distinguished Psychologist and Chairman of Carl Rogers Institute of Mental Health and Research Centre in Kohima. Mere elaborated on the fundamental concepts of mentoring and counselling, elucidating the roles, responsibilities, and basic skills required to effectively guide mentees towards personal and academic success. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A session, providing participants with the opportunity to delve deeper into the subject matter. In another session, Mere focused on the application of basic micro skills in mentoring and counselling. The session concluded with another interactive Q&A segment, allowing for further clarification and discussion.

The students of Bachelor of Vocation in Retail Management and IT Modern College, Piphema are currently undergoing an Internship programme for a period of one month in Kohima. The internship period is from April 1 till the 30. The interning stores where students are involved are Reliance Smart Point, Toudi Enterprise, Entrepreneur Development Agency, and OKUSA Toyota. 

 

Mount Saramati Higher Secondary School and Montessori Home, Chümoukedima hosted a seminar on career counselling in collaboration with National Career Service (NCS) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment GOI catering to the needs of Class 10 and 12 students, as well as the outgoing batch. The resource persons from the NCS included Yapangsangla Lkr, Lanungsang, Abdu Salem TK and Elongse Jamir in the presence of the Academic Coordinator and Academic Counsellor of the school. The NCS representatives elaborated on the plethora of career opportunities and resources available on their portal, emphasizing the importance of soft skills, corporate etiquettes, and vocational training, including promising career paths in aviation and cabin crew, aligning with the offerings of the school’s hospitality and tourism subject in Class 11. They highlighted the significance of computer awareness, an integral component of the school's ITES subject taught in Class 11. Interactive sessions facilitated engaging discussions between students and resource persons, providing invaluable insights and guidance.

The Mentoring Committee of Sao Chang College (SCC), Tuensang organised a seminar on ‘Emotional Intelligence for Success’ with Dr Limamanen Phom, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, SCC as the keynote speaker on April 23. Dr Phom emphasised how emotional intelligence creates a safer environment and helps individuals stay focused on long-term goals. He highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence in achieving positive outcomes, emphasizing factors like self-awareness, emotion management, motivation, empathy, and social competence. People who possess a keen sense of self-awareness are better equipped to recognize their strengths and weaknesses. Dr Phom concluded by underscoring that while technical skills and cognitive abilities are crucial, emotional intelligence is a significant predictor of success today. A total of 59 participants attended the seminar.

The School of NPSC-NSSB Kohima and Sazolie College formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 22, at Sazolie College. Present at the signing were Dr Gopal Chetri, Principal of Sazolie College, Dziesesanuo Dzüvichü, Convenor of the Career Counseling and Guidance Cell, and Imtisenla Longkumer, representing the First Party. As part of the agreement, the First Party pledges to offer a 30% fee concession to recent graduates enrolling in NPSC and NSSB programs from Sazolie College. Additionally, a 100% scholarship will be awarded to one student nominated by the college. Moreover, the First Party agrees to conduct orientation sessions, career counseling, and guidance programs. The MoU includes provisions for its discontinuation or renewal, contingent upon the mutual consent of both parties involved.
