Dimapur, October 11 (MExN): An interactive workshop on ‘next generation of women leadership building’ was jointly organized by Women in Governance (WinG) and Naga Indigenous Women Network (NIWN) on October 10 at Youth Action for Rural Development (YARD). Participants were young women comprising of students and those who have completed their studies, including self-employed.
Sessions on concept of leadership, understanding various forms of leaderships, indigenous concepts, rights, identity and women leadership were deliberated and discussed. Participants also shared their personal stories, their understanding, image and visualization of a leader and leaderships in local and global context. Opportunity and challenges of leaders and leadership in Naga society was also deliberated.
A press release received here stated that participants got an insight in to whom and what constitute a leader and leadership; be it in a community or a larger society. They were motivated to take up issues that affect their lives and future, to be agents of change, to take opportunity and raise their voice of concern on injustice and human rights. It was also brought out in the workshop that Churches and Social organizations – women bodies in traditional organizations and institutions are platform that young women can utilized for enhancing their potentials and knowledge.
The workshop also acknowledged the hardship and challenges that comes along with the attempt to bring change in the society. The challenges, as women, in terms of mobility, capacity and resources were also deliberated. One of the main thoughts, opinion and observation expressed in the workshop is to collectively strive toward a better society- to be model for others to see, be it in their small way, at homes, in communities or even as leaders in the society.
