NEZCC children contingent to perform at R-day

Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): The North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur will present the Dahal Thungri dance of Bodo, Assam during Republic Day Parade held on January 26 at Rajpath, New Delhi.
NEZCC Director Som Kamei, IPS in a press release said that the children contingent will present the Dahal Thungri consisting of 150 students, 10 musicians, 10 teachers and 2 choreographers selected from Ramfalbil High School, Serfanguri High School, Patgaon High School, U.N.B Vocational Girls’ High, Habrubari, Saraibil High School, U.N. Academy, Ramfalbil, Aflagaon High School and Banargaon High School from Kokrajhar, District, Assam.
The Dahal Thungri dance was selected from the North East region by the Expert Committee from the Ministry of Defence, Government of India for participation of School Children in the Republic Day Parade, 2011. Dahal Thungri is a Bodo folk dance of Assam performed by the Bodo community.  This dance is performed by Bodo women, who take pride in calling themselves as warrior community. The Contingent reached Delhi on January 4, 2011 and has also participated in the rehearsals held at Rajpath from January 5 to 24 prior to the final Parade. The NEZCC & Ministry of Culture, Government of India is sponsoring the Contingent.
